Rendell’s 1,000-plus pardons set modern mark

Gov. Ed Rendell is leaving office next month having signed more than twice as many pardons as any other governor in modern times.

The state Board of Pardons says Rendell, with about a month left in his second term, has granted more than 1,000 pardons.

That broke the previous record set by Gov. Milton Shapp, who signed 475 during his time in office in the 1970s.
