Raises for two convention center executives

Whether the raises were justified or not, the Center is not profitable.  Corporations and small businesses right here in Lancaster Country are asking employees to give up vacations, paid extra holidays and some are asking for a salary decrease on a temporary level but not the Convention Center.

I am surprised Ms. Nelson does not look at what is happening with the County jobs.  The Executive Director is going to another position that has been vacated and the County is choosing NOT to fill his position, actually do away with the position and save around 125,000 plus benefits per year.

This is just what Authorities do and I am sincerely sad to see this.  The two employees are paid handsomely and may deserve raises but the bottom line is that the Convention Center is NOT making money.  Whether this is in the cards or not is not relevant during these economic trying times.  I am sure there are a lot of experienced people out there willing to work at these positions for the base salary or even less.

I recently advertised for a skilled carpenter assist. PART TIME and in 2 days received 25 replies.  Hired a over qualified person and told him I was getting a bargain at this time.  He was so grateful to get the job and appreciating the fact that I did not turn him away without a chance.

I do not think there are many convention centers across the country with openings offering these salaries.  There are accounting firms and law firms in this county laying off as well as cutting back on staff hours.  We are giving raises.  What is wrong with this picture?

  1. What is wrong with this picture???……….PENN SQUARE PARTNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. It would interesting to find out if the raises were based off of their performance or a cost of living increase. Obviously,if their performance warrants the increase so be it. However, if it is a cost of living – no way should this occur. Meanwhile it begs to ask, if the cc isn’t making any then how can we measure their performance?
