Putin leaves G20 early over Ukraine

FINANCIAL TIMES: Mr Putin insisted there was a “good chance of a resolution” of the conflict in Ukraine and said the G20 talks had been “complete, constructive and very helpful” but the Russian president left Brisbane before the final communiqué was announced, saying he had a long flight back to Moscow and wanted to get some sleep…

Angela Merkel, German chancellor, spent hours in talks with Mr Putin on Saturday to discuss Ukraine and the economic consequences for Moscow and the EU if the crisis was not resolved.

Ms Merkel confirmed the EU was likely next week to extend the list of Russian separatists in Ukraine subject to sanctions but conceded that the stand-off was not helping to achieve the G20’s goal of reviving the global economy… (more)
