Private prison not a model

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER:  The mistaken release of at least five inmates from Pennsylvania’s only private county prison is another wake-up call to scrutinize the for-profit business.  

The operators of the Delaware County facility blame clerical errors for the releases. A comedy of errors would be a more apt description. Except this is no laughing matter. Among those mistakenly released since last May from the George W. Hill Correctional Facility was a murder suspect being held without bail.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a bright red jumpsuit that identified him as a high risk, the inmate was allowed to walk out the front door. He surrendered to authorities a day later… (more)
