Press release from Lancaster County Commissioners office

Residents Save Over $57,000 Using the

Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card

Lancaster, PA (October 9, 2009) – “Lancaster County residents have saved more than $57,000 on over 3,200 prescriptions since the Board of Commissioners launched the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card Program on May 29, 2009,” announced Commissioner Scott Martin.  “Residents using the card, continue to receive an average discounted rate of 22% on their prescription medications – that is money placed right back into the pockets of our residents.”

“Since we initiated the program, we have seen a substantial increase in the number of residents who are benefiting from the program each month,” said Commissioner Stuckey.  From June to August, the number of residents who used the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card in a month period almost doubled.  “We hope that all residents, who have medications that are not covered by another insurance plan, are aware of this program and are able to easily obtain and utilize this card in the upcoming months, “said Commissioner Stuckey.

LancasterCounty has made the free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and administered by Caremark that offers savings off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs for prescriptions not covered by another health insurance plan.  The card may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, and are accepted at 91 pharmacies in LancasterCounty and over 59,000 pharmacies nationwide.

“The increased number of residents benefiting from the discount card can be attributed to the many individuals and entities who have partnered with us to distribute the cards,” said Commissioner Craig Lehman.  “We thank all of our partners and encourage anyone who would like to share this discount with people in their community to contact our office at 299-8300 for additional information.”  A complete list of locations where the public can obtain a discount card is provided on the LancasterCounty website at www.co.lancaster.pa.us.
