Pennsylvania homeland security chief Powers resigns

TRIBUNE-REVIEW:  Embattled state Homeland Security Director James F. Powers Jr., criticized for terror bulletins that targeted law-abiding protest groups, has resigned, Gov. Ed Rendell said today.

Rendell said at a news conference that he did not ask for Powers’ resignation. He said there had been no new information beyond the bulletins.

The bulletin were sent to law enforcement, local governments and private security officials warning of protests by environmental activists, anti-war demonstrators and anti-tax groups…  (more)
