Penn State trustees’ campaign heats up

LEHIGH VALLEY MORNING CALL: … Now, as voting is set to begin Wednesday, a campaign is under way to persuade more alumni to step off the sidelines and vote in an election where turnout could top last year’s. The race has drawn 39 candidates for three seats on the 32-member board.

At least one group, Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship, have endorsed a slate — Edward “Ted” B. Brown III, Barbara L. Doran and William F. Oldsey — against incumbents Paul Suhey, an orthopedic surgeon from Boalsburg, Centre County, and Stephanie Nolan Deviney, an attorney from Exton, Chester County. The third available seat is the one held by former board Chairman Steve Garban, who resigned in July and was never replaced.

At times, the campaign could easily be confused with a political primary race rather than one deciding who will shape Penn State and likely determine its next president… (more)
