Penn State puts $138.5M of construction on hold

Penn State University’s trustees put on hold $138.5 million worth of construction projects because of the proposed reduction in funding from the state.

During a meeting in The New York Helmsley Hotel in Manhattan on Friday, trustees agreed to select architects for a number of projects but did not give them the go-ahead to proceed with work, according to university officials.

“The tremendous uncertainty that the proposed appropriation cuts present forces us to operate with a maximum amount of caution and care,” said Al Horvath, the university’s senior vice president for finance and business, in a prepared statement. “Waiting until there is more clarity in our financial future is the best course for now.”
