Penn State picks Florida State’s Barron as its next president

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: Pennsylvania State University has chosen one of its former deans – Florida State University president Eric J. Barron, who led the school in Tallahassee to national recognition for efficient operations – as its 18th president, a Penn State source confirmed Friday.

Barron, 62, who was at Penn State from 1986 to 2006, the last four years as dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, has run Florida State, his alma mater, for almost four years…

His selection culminates a yearlong search and comes about 31/2 months after the university’s previous attempt to hire a president fell apart when allegations surfaced that David R. Smith, president of the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, had received unauthorized pay from outside sources… (more)
