Penn State off to strong start in course correction from Sandusky scandal, monitor writes

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS:  …[Former U.S. Sen. George ]Mitchell also makes clear he is watching the cultural tug-of-war between those that want to take responsibility for the Sandusky scandal and move forward and that part of the alumni base who feel current board leaders and President Rodney Erickson have sold out Penn State’s heritage.

Mitchell says that is a necessary debate to have. But he also warns that all Penn Staters must be mindful that “a culture where building custodians do not report obvious wrongdoing because they fear for their jobs is not acceptable.”

That reference is to an incident in which a janitor walked in on Sandusky sexually assaulting a boy, only to decide with colleagues not to report it because they feared the repercussions… (more)
