Penn State football uniforms to have names for first time

SPORTING NEWS:  Penn State players, for the first time, will have their names on their football jerseys when they open the season against Ohio on Sept. 1. They will also wear a blue ribbon to support all victims of child abuse.

For 125 seasons, the Nittany Lions have worn plain jerseys, with only a number identifying each player. Now, they’ll more closely remember the rest of the nation with names like McGloin and Mauti stitched on the back.

“We want our fans to know and recognize these young men,” coach Bill O’Brien said. “They have stuck together during tough times, and I commend them for the leadership they have shown. Moving forward, I’m deeply committed to honoring Penn State’s traditions, while building a bright future for our football program.” …  (more)
