Patriot-News losing seven reporters

CUMBERLAND SENTINAL:  an internal document obtained by The Sentinel confirms The Patriot-News is shedding at least 19 journalists, including seven reporters, three of whom — Libby Gibson, Dan Miller and Monica VonDobeneek — cover Cumberland County.

The newspaper has struggled to accurately relay information about itself as it has moved forward with its plans to eliminate its print edition four days per week and focus more primarily on pennlive.com — a move Barron hailed as “a bold, cutting-edge direction for us” in her column.

In interviews with The Sentinel over the summer, Kirkpatrick initially denied reports that many of his employees were given pink slips and pay cuts. Only when told those employees had provided information to The Sentinel suggesting otherwise did Kirkpatrick acknowledge that those rumors were true. He later conceded that “Not all of our employees are happy, and that is our fault. A lot has transpired — and we have not been doing a good job in explaining things. Shame on us.” … (more)
