Paterno to Retire as Penn State’s Coach

BLOOMBERG: Joe Paterno … 84, said in a statement that he will leave one of college football’s most prestigious programs at the end of this season after 46 years in charge. The Nittany Lions have three regular-season games remaining and a possible postseason bowl game.

Paterno has faced criticism for failing to contact authorities after being told of a case involving Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator who is charged with sexual assault of eight boys from 1994 to 2009.

“This is a tragedy,” Paterno said. “It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.” …  (more)
