Officials discuss avoiding another budget stalemate

“How to avoid another budget stalemate was the big question members of the Washington County League of Women Voters put Friday to members of the Legislature, five of whom faced the music at Jeremiah’s banquet hall in North Franklin Township.

“A follow up question dealt with how the state Legislature can operate more efficiently.

“State Rep. John Maher, the sole Republican among the county’s legislative delegation whose district includes Peters Township, harked back to a time when GOP members held majorities in both the General Assembly and Senate and governorship and the budget was completed in April, weeks before the June 30.”
