Observers, election returns suggest Kathleen Kane’s focus on the Penn State scandal helped her win

PENN LIVE:  …Her vow to investigate whether politics played a role in the development of the case became one of the biggest issues in the heated race. Several observers suggested that her capturing the most votes of any statewide candidate in Tuesday’s election showed support for her commitment to explore the way that case was handled.

She captured 56 percent of the votes cast to the 42 percent received by her Republican opponent, David Freed, the Cumberland County district attorney. Libertarian candidate Marakay Rogers garnered 2 percent.

Observers and election returns suggest Kane’s focus on the Penn State scandal was a major factor in her becoming the first woman and Democrat to be elected Pennsylvania attorney general.
