President Obama will name former Commerce Secretary William Daley as the new White House chief of staff, Politics Daily confirmed on Thursday.
Interim chief Pete Rouse will stay on in an elevated position as counselor to the president. Obama will make the official announcement at 2:30 p.m. EST Thursday. Rouse, the architect of a White House midterm personnel overhaul, did not want to stay on as chief of staff for the next two years.
Daley, the Midwest chief for JP Morgan Chase — who ran Vice President Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign and the Florida recount drive — met Wednesday with Obama at the White House. Daley comes on board as the Obama team is gearing up for the 2012 re-election campaign…
