Obama to Ohio State graduates: Be good citizens

USA TODAY: …Among [President Barack Obama’s] items: Repair the middle class, educate more children at a younger age, improve high schools, make college more affordable, build better roads and airports and a faster Internet, promote research and technology, confront climate change and “protect more of our kids from the horrors of gun violence.”…

Citizenship has also been tested by the recent shortcomings of some American institutions, Obama told the students, citing Wall Street, the media and Washington politics in general. Said Obama: “I think it’s fair to say our democracy isn’t working as well as we know it can. It could do better.”…

Obama also asked the students to do two things: “Participate” and “persevere.” He said that means not just voting, but also keeping up with what lawmakers actually do and demanding change when necessary… (more)
