Dave Lindorff takes us inside the dire unemployment situation and the happy face our corporate media are putting on it, this morning. According to our mass media, we are in an economic recovery, and unemployment is dropping. If, however, we look at reality, unemployment is growing, and there has been no recovery for the poor or working class as unemployment and homelessness continue to increase.
Apparently the belief there is a recovery lies in the rising stock market, but this has no effect on most Americans, as 59% own no stock, no mutual funds, and have no money in retirement accounts invested in the stock market. The wealthiest one percent own eighty percent of the stock, so yes, they are doing well, investing as they do in Chinese factories where the profits are since they moved the jobs there.
Corporate media often tell us most Americans own stock, and to arrive at this “fact,” the corporate-funded think tanks who provide such information to our mass media, count those who own stock, mutual funds and retirement accounts as three people. To be fair, most of our mass media “journalists” are ignorant of the facts behind the “news” they report, in the most sophisticated propaganda system ever devised.

I agree with this completely. What is particularly irritating is how working people are doing the work of two or three people, while so many people can’t get a job.
Perhaps instead giving endless unemployment benefits, we could give the money to employers to hire more people.
