Newstead Trio to give PAM benefit concert this Friday

The Newstead Trio will offer a benefit concert Friday, April 16th at 7:30 pm in Steinman Hall at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. This concert, part of the campaign for PAM – a fundraising push to save the Academy – will be free to the public, although contributions will be welcome.

“We have been the ensemble-in-residence at the Academy since 1993 and feel a strong allegiance to the institution,” said Michael T. Jamanis, violinist of the Newstead Trio. “Educational and musical activities have flourished through recent months when the building has been in the news. We want people to see for themselves that the fine qualities that distinguish the institution are still intact.”

The program, which includes works by Schubert, Shostakovich, and Shoenfield, is designed to illustrate the broad spectrum of the curriculum at the Academy. Following the concert, the trio will leave for a concert tour of Germany, performing at the Dreicher Musiktage Festival.

The trio, which also includes pianist Xun Pan and cellist Sara Male, has released five CD’s, and has performed to sold-out audiences in Carnegie Hall and the National Performing Arts Center in Beijing. They have toured throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.

The Newstead Trio is represented by Barrett Vantage Management in New York City.
