NEW YORK TIMES

In The Fat Lady Has Sung”, columnist Thomas Friedman writes “….Welcome to the lean years…

We, alas, in too many ways, have been what the writer Kurt Andersen called ‘The Grasshopper Generation,’ eating through the prosperity that was bequeathed us like hungry locusts. …

“…Having helped run the deficit to new heights during the recent Bush years, the G.O.P. is now unwilling to take any responsibility for dealing with it if it involves raising taxes…”

  1. Highly related to this lack of GOP responsibility for the huge deficits they created (tax cuts, unpaid prescription drug plan, unfunded wars, de-regulation, etc) is the Paul Krugman column in the NY Times today pointing out that it has been a conservative (read GOP) strategy for several years to reduce the size of government by bankrupting it (“The Bankruptcy Boys”).

Now that they have brought this to fruition, they, with unbelievable hypocrisy and profound dissimulation point to the Democrats as the cause because . . . . why? Because they are in power and enacted the 700 billion stimulus plan . . . .needed (according to many, many prominent economists) to spend us out of a deeper recession/depression created by Who?

Who pitched the wanton tax cuts, who the de-regulation of the economy, who preaches “keep the government out of way of the market forces”, who unfunded the unnecessary wars, who unfunded the medicare drug plan, who had been in power for eight years, the last of which (2008) exploded into the worst financial crisis since the depression?
