NEW ERA

A column by Carol Petersen entitled “Palin seems stuck in ‘08 presidential-campaign mode” says “One has only to watch [Sarah Palin] in unscripted, one-on-one interviews, even with the most friendly journalists from Fox News, to know that this college communications major is very good at delivery other people’s words, but lacks the basic knowledge of history, politics, international and current affairs to answer the simplest questions, much less to occupy the highest office in the land.”

Petersen goes on to opine “Surprisingly, tea partiers seemed to miss the irony of this woman standing at a lectern, reading a key-note address (written for her by someone else) off of a teleprompter, attacking the president of the United States for lecturing from a lectern and reading from a teleprompter. Truly a classic moment!”

WATCHDOG: The column is also a classic moment. Unfortunately it is not (yet) online. Two wags of the tail!

And yet…and yet…If Palin uses the next couple of years for intensive study of history, foreign affairs and economics, she might remake herself into a serious candidate. It is really up to her.

  1. Just because Palin would come up to speed on topics like history, foreign affairs, and economics, doesn’t mean she would be any more qualified to be President of the United States any more than I would be. An effective President must have outstanding management and organizational skills while considering the big picture (the USA is a VERY big picture), and be able to quickly make life-and-death decisions while taking into account the experience and input of their advisors. Palin has not clearly demonstrated the ability to do any of these; her brief tenure as Governor of Alaska was controversial, to say the least
