NEW ERA

An editorial proclaims “Surge worked in Iraq and can again”. It goes on to say, “The Pentagon brass strongly supports a surge, and one of the chief reasons is that it has worked before—just two years ago in Iraq.”

WATCHDOG: Sure, just like in Viet Nam! Over several years we surged and surged and surged until we had half a million American soldiers there and 50,000 dead, plus over a million Vietnamese. Why bother considering the dramatic difference in topography, culture, westernization, and attitudes towards USA involvement?

After a more balanced discussion, the editorial whines “But what is the alternative to fighting harder to improve the situation?” That is exactly what the Obama Administration is trying to determine. But maybe they should simply let the benighted editorial staff of the New Era make the decision for them.
