LETTER: There are good officials and citizens can help

Re:  Since 2008 medium income stagnates in PA. Salaries of state officials grow.

First of all, not all legislators in PA accepted those COLA,s. Some donated them to charities or the state treasury. A few do not accept pre diems either. You need to find out who those folks are BEFORE you vote!

Some do not accept car allowances. My senator drives a truck that this week will turn over 400,000 miles!

These abuses happen because voters send people to Harrisburg then just sit back and only get involved by bitching to each other. Legislators are not held accountable. As long as they “bring home the bacon” they are re-elected!

People in PA have only themselves to blame. If you tell your son to take out the trash and there are no consequences for not doing it, do you expect him to do it next time? If your daughter is told to get $5 from your wallet and takes a $20, are there consequences?

We allow politicians to steal from us all the time. WE are to blame. My Senator posts messages every day about what is happening in Harrisburg regarding legislation and the budget. If I call him, he either accepts the call or returns the call! More of us must develop these relationships.

My former Assemblyman used to send me pending legislation in my field of expertise to ask for feedback. We have a new one and I have not yet developed such a relationship with her but intend to. If more of you would do this, things would change.

Heck if you even just check their records BEFORE you vote it would help tremendously.

The answer is – If you want to change things – get busy making that change! By the way, I still care about the character of our president so I will not be voting for Trump unless I have no other real choice.
