LANCASTER SUNDAY NEWS

The lead article , “$3.8 billion in property untaxed in Lancaster County“, reports:

“Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray has an idea how the county could help ease the city’s perpetual fiscal crunch: Pay taxes…

“ ‘We protect the courthouse. We provide police, fire and public works, and people from the county use those services,’ Gray said. ‘It would be an easy form of revenue sharing.’ ”

WATCHDOG: Gray forgot to mention the real estate tax exemption he arranged for the Marriott Hotel through his redevelopment authority (RACL).

Also there was a box with the article showing the top five tax exempt properties. Why just five, not ten? That would have included the Marriott in which the Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. is half equitable owner.

  1. Mayor Gray has this tendency to protect PSP at any and all costs. LNP, of course, will never step forward with anything that would shed a negative or even questionable light on themselves and PSP. S
o much for ‘local conversation’ that LNP is trumpeting for their Perspective section in the Sunday News…..they will never allow for any honest dialogue when it comes to sacred cows.

  2. Where was the protest when the Armstrong floor plant was “donated” to F & M and LGH? Prime industrial real estate with fantastic railroad access thrown away (and hailed as a success).

And where was the protest when the county took the Armstrong property on Chestnut St away from a taxpayer ( who later sued the county )?
