Peter Mekeel’s first column as editor is headed “Why we do what we do.”
He says “On most days you will find only news and features that focus on Lancaster County on our front page. Why is that? Because local is what we do. It’s who we are. Seven days a week.”

However, let’s hope the exception to the above isn’t to avoid criticizing the rich, the powerful, the influential, and sources of advertisement on the theory that the Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. is running a business, not a crusade.
Time will tell.
Until LNP ‘comes clean’ about the finances between the Marriott Hotel and the Convention Center; and ‘comes clean’ about the finances between the genral taxpaying public and PSP, all the editorials about ‘local news’ really don’t amount to much.
If Lancaster County had an alternative to LNP, there would be precious little for them to ‘pat themselves on the back’ about. How many different editors does one “news organization” need, anyway??????
