LANCASTER SUNDAY NEWS

Op-Ed  “Conservatism rooted in values” states:

“Conservatives and liberals differ at a basic worldview level. Conservatives believe government is a necessary evil, and that government exists by the will of the people, serving at their good pleasure, believing the individual and the family are the basic units of society. Liberals appear to believe that government is the defining unit of society, that citizens are dependent upon government for their rights and their well-being and that people exist to fuel and fund the government.”

WATCHDOG:   Talk about a ‘straw man’ argument!  Does any objective individual believe that liberal’s think that “people exist to fuel and fund the government”?

Can’t the Sunday News editor comes up with a better defense of conservatism other than this abject bias and ignorance?  If they are to offer a counter to the erudition and perspective of columnist (and apparently formerly associated editor) Gil Smart, which they well should, let them find an able spokesperson.   There are plenty around.

  1. Perhaps Newslanc can take a crack contrasting conservatives and liberals (progressives). My contrast is small government vs. big government, local control vs state or national control, help for the sick and infirm vs help for the sick, the infirm and the able bodied. School choice vs school assignment.
