John M. Buckwalter, the chairman of the board of Steinman Enterprises, died unexpectedly late Wednesday while on a family vacation in Bar Harbor, Maine.”

WATCHDOG: We note with sadness the passing of Jack Buckwalter.  A paragraph of particular relevance  to us appeared in his obituary:   “In 2004, he also was named chairman of Steinman Enterprises, which includes Lancaster County Weeklies Inc., Lancaster Farming Inc., Intelligencer Printing Co., Delmarva Broadcasting Co., Steinman Coal Corp. and Steinman Park Restaurant Inc. The companies employ 616 full-time workers and 217 part-time workers.”

At their meeting in 2004, Jack Buckwalter made a point of his new and demanding assignments when he disclaimed much knowledge of the convention center project and referred Robert Field to S. Dale High.

As this column has mentioned several times over the past year, the Lancaster Newspapers have returned to their past high quality and service to the community.  Buckwalter deserves credit for this.  “May his memory be for a blessing.”

  1. If only LNP would have spent less time writing about the hotel/convention center in the article and obituary…..very self-centered, as always. Jack’s legacy may not prove to be as ‘positive’ for lancaster City/County as the shills at LNP would try to lead us to accept.

  2. If I had not already decided long, long ago that Bill Bonner is just right when he says that people come to believe the things they need to believe when they need to believe them, I would have no logical explanation for how anybody can believe in “the peace process.”

Israel is not going to give up Jerusalem, nor allow itself to be un-Jewished at a blow by granting the “Right of Return.” The Palestinians are not going to settle for Jerusalem being held by Israel, nor will the surrounding Arab countries ever grant the sixty-year-plus “refugees” citizenship or take them out of their reverse Potemkin-villages.
