Lancaster General defies the law of gravity.

In 2008, President and CEO Thomas E. Beeman received an increase in overall compensation from the prior $530,298 to $1,347,309.

Executive Vice President Jan L. Bergen over all pay was increased from $256,333 to $681,606.

The subject time frame was the worst for the US economy since the great depression.  In short, the economy plummeted; LGH executive  compensation soared.

Now this publicly owned institution, officially designated a ‘Public Charity’, has agreed to gift to Beeman $1,247,309 while he serves a year in the U. S. Navy. Presumably Bergen and others will also receive increases in compensations for covering Beeman’s duties.

Meanwhile, many community public health and education needs go unfunded or underfunded.
