Julianne Baird

March 25, PAM brings international early music superstar Julianne Baird to Saint James Church for a most provocative evening of the “mad songs” of Henry Purcell interspersed with period readings from the famous Bedlam Asylum, as narrated by Edward Mauger. Our word “bedlam” comes from the shortened form of the Bethlem Royal Hospital, a London facility that was the first to specialize in treating the mentally ill and which could be toured by the public for a penny. Purcell’s unusual collection of songs reflect the late 17th century fascination with madness. For more on Dr. Baird, visit her official website or read her own concert notes for this program. 7:30 p.m. Click here to purchase a ticket.
