Kudos to LNP’s editorial board and the Steinman family

We have remarked on it often before but it deserves being said again:

LNP and members of the Steinman family for at least two decades have been courageous and visionary concerning the need to emphasize health care over the criminal justice system in dealing with drug addiction.

It was almost unprecedented at the time, perhaps twenty years ago, when the family’s foundation invited then Baltimore Mayor Kurt Shmoke to Lancaster to give a special evening lecture on drug policy to what was largely an audience of professionals.

Today’s editorial, “State House acts to relieve the suffering of many” favoring medical marijuana is not a ‘Johnny come lately” position but rather a continuation of long held views.

In part:

“If you’ve ever watched a loved one battling cancer and being ravaged by pain and the side effects of chemotherapy, you’d understand why.

You’d understand, too, if you’ve known a child with epilepsy, and have agonized as that child was racked by seizure after seizure after seizure.

“Or, if you have a friend or relative with multiple sclerosis who desperately wants some remedy for the uncontrollable muscle spasms that come with that disease.

“The forces arrayed against medical marijuana have been formidable. But they’ve been met with the voices of the suffering and those who love them…”

Again, Kudos to the editorial board and the family. We want to be proud of LNP and the Steinman family and in this case we certainly are.
