Kiev streets erupt in clashes with police

FINANCIAL TIMES: Anger over draconian new anti-protest legislation in Ukraine erupted into violence on Sunday as thousands of demonstrators clashed with riot police outside the government building in Kiev.

In the most violent scenes since largely peaceful pro-EU demonstrations began nearly two months ago, protesters seeking the removal of President Viktor Yanukovich seized buses, setting one on fire and driving others into columns of riot police guarding the government building…

The upsurge of violence has taken the protests to a new level. It is likely to escalate concerns in international capitals that the political situation in Ukraine is unravelling after anti-protest laws were rushed though parliament last Thursday.
