Kane’s Chief of Staff Grilled by Senate Committee ; Ed Rendell testifies for Kane

LEGAL INTELLIGENCER: …As he fielded searching questions on Kane’s daily schedule, the delegation of legal responsibilities in the office and her recent appointment of a special prosecutor, [Jonathon] Duecker painted a picture of a functional office whose leader can accomplish the vast majority of her duties without a license. His testimony, as multiple senators pointed out, stood in stark contrast to that provided two months ago by the office’s top deputies, who told the committee of the substantial legal challenges presented by Kane’s suspension.

The scope of Kane’s responsibilities and authority “is vastly more than the technical practice of law,” Duecker said. “She remains in charge and the office continues to function effectively.”

The committee, reviewing the narrow question of whether Kane can carry out the duties of her office without a license, also heard testimony from former Gov.
