Jay Paterno relates JoePa’s lesson for us all

The following is from a McClatchy Newspaper account of the memorial service held for football coach Joe Paterno as published in the Intelligencer Journal New Era:

“…Joe Paterno’s high school friend at Brooklyn Prep, Peter ‘Bill’ Blatty, later the author of the novel ‘The Exorcist,’ told the family this week:  Blatty had entered a citywide singing contest, and everyone there thought he had won, except the judges.  … According to Jay, his father saw Blatty the next day and asked, ‘Hey, why are you down?  Do you believe you won?’  Blatty said he thought he did. ‘That’s all you need,’ Joe Paterno told him.”

EDITOR:   Most judge themselves by the opinions of others.  The best leaders are ‘self realized’, taking into consideration what others think but ultimately being their own judge.
