It’s time for PA to get out of the booze business!

…It is my option that the state of Pennsylvania needs to get out of the business of buying & selling spirits.

Currently the only real winner in Pennsylvania is the four labor unions. The unions continue driving up the cost of doing business, resulting in less profit.

Also the old argument that the State of Pennsylvania needs to sell the product to control abuse is an old scare tactic that simply is not true.

This is why the state of Pennsylvania needs to get out of the liquor business.

(A)  Retail prices: Pennsylvania consumers pay higher prices for product

(B)   Labor cost: Pennsylvania is paying extremely high labor cost.

(C)   Product selection: Everyone knows that the Pennsylvania State Liquor Stores have never offered a very good selection of product.

(D)  Profit: Due to Pennsylvania’s antiquated liquor control system and ideas the taxpayers are getting a very poor return for their investment.

It would be much more profitable for Pennsylvania if all liquor stores are privatized.  Letting the free market dictate the value of liquor & beer licenses & permits through a bidding process would generate greater revenue for the state.

Today many states allow beer, wine & liquor to be sold at grocery stores and mini- markets in addition to liquor stores. Adopting similar practices in Pennsylvania would create a much more completive market for product and considerable increase in tax revenue.

Responsible drinking and driving programs are an important part of allowing anyone to access of sprits. Many states have been very successful controlling under age drinking with aggressive educational programs & law enforcement.

The bottom line is that if Pennsylvania sold adequate liquor & beer licenses state wide let the free market set retail prices, the Pennsylvania State Government would generate greater revenue from the sale of liquor than it does under the present system.
