Israel wary of Iranian warships in Suez Canal

USA TODAY:   Israel‘s prime minister said Sunday that he views “with gravity” Egypt‘s decision to let warships from Iran use the Suez Canal and steam past Israel’s shore, the first time that has been allowed in 32 years.

The Iranian ships were expected to cross through the canal Tuesday or Wednesday en route to Syria— an Iranian ally and Israel’s enemy to the north. On Sunday, the frigate Alvand and the supply ship Kharq were near the southern entrance to the canal.

“Israel views this Iranian step with gravity,” Benjamin Netanyahu told the weekly meeting of his Cabinet.  Netanyahu did not say there would be an Israeli response…  (more)
