An article “Graduation exams stir debate” reports “Opposition by local school officials to state-mandated high school graduation exams has softened over the past year, now that schools will be allowed to substitute their own tests for the new exams and high school PSSAs will be eliminated.”
WATCHDOG: Standardized graduation exams in order to graduate strikes us as punishing students for the schools promoting them year after year. We fear it would generate drop-outs rather than improve academic standards.
Better to provide different tracts according to interests and abilities, and perhaps offer a general degree for poor performers and a full degree for those scoring above a certain level academically over the years.
