INTELLIGENCER NEW ERA

Article headed “PAM chief steps down” relates:

…“A year ago, [Dr.  Tomas Godfrey] learned of the academy’s plight from his friends, Dr. and Mrs. Holmes Morton, who had recently joined PAM’s board.

“When the Mortons and their fellow trustees asked Godfrey to help, he agreed, taking his post in March 2010.

“Godfrey said he’d stay through year-end for a salary of $1.”

WATCHDOG: Contrast Dr. Godfrey’s willingness to contribute a year and a half of his services to endeavor to rescue and perpetuate the Pennsylvania Academy of Music with Lancaster General Hospital, also a ‘public charity’, paying its president Thomas Beemer $1,200,000 to supplement his $100,000 pay from the U. S. Navy.

We appreciate the service of  Beeman and the motivations of LGH’s trustees, but the values of both when it comes to the use of charitable funds requires public scrutiny.

Three wags of the tail for Godfrey.  Whatever the future of PAM, he has helped allow it to meet its obligations and restore its dignity… as well as to contribute to the community’s dignity and culture.
