An article “Brunswick repair list runs 7 pages” goes on to say “There was the holes in the walls, the wiring on the sprinkle pipes and, of course, the inoperable fire alarms (sic) system. But there also was the mildewed carpet, missing fire door and the extension cords that had to be replaced.”
WATCHDOG:
When the City takes two full days to explain the closing of a major downtown hotel and subjects itself to millions of dollars in liabilities, its attorneys will come up with a seven page rationale.
The Watchdog has not yet toured the Brunswick but observes the following:
- Holes have to be made in fire walls during renovation for conduit and pipes . They can quickly be filled with fire retardant foam.
- Reportedly, the fire alarm system was soon restored to operation by Yarnell Security Systems which is in charge of its maintenance.
- Out of the 222 rooms, 136 have recently been fully renovated. However, 86 have been taken out of service which explains their untidy condition. Mildew is not dangerous and can be readily removed.
- A missing fire door can be re-hung in an hour.
- Extension cords should be unplugged.
Given its partnership interest in the competing Marriott Hotel, the Lancaster Newspapers should be especially circumspect about how they report on the situation. Hopefully, they will read “Brunswick: How we treat the stranger among us”.
