INTELLIGENCER JOURNAL NEW ERA

Front page article “Motorcycle helmet use: debating the pros and cons” reports:

“Four motorcyclists have died on Lancaster County roads this year; numerous others were seriously hurt, according to police and newspaper reports…

“Three of the four riders who died were riding without helmets, the county coroner said. At least eight other helmetless riders died in the two prior years, records show.

” ‘Many of these deaths were preventable,’ Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said this weekend. ‘For whatever reason they chose not to wear a helmet, it made a difference.’ “…

WATCHDOG: Two wags of the tail for this front page article. We rode cycles for years, our last being a BMW. (Sorry Harley fans.) Why the state law was modified to allow such risk is hard to understand.

A careless car or truck driver, some oil or gravel on a turn, and even the best rider is on the macadam.
