In “Bidding farewell to this column”, Dan Rather acknowledges “A full load, and then some, of investigative work and international reporting for television no longer leaves enough time to do that and continue to meet the column deadline with anything near the respect for the craft that it deserves.”

NewsLanc scorned Rather a couple of weeks ago for his superficial and wrongheaded column dealing with the very serious problem of appropriate pain management. For those who have observed him over the years, it is inconceivable that such shoddy work could have been anything but due to distractions and time constraints.
