Governor a one trick pony

Editorial:  Gov. Tom Corbett continues balancing the state budget on the shoulders of the poor. Wednesday, he ordered further deep cuts in services for the state’s neediest residents to begin covering a projected $487 million fiscal year-end deficit by June 30.

The budget’s condition and the governor’s reaction to it only emphasize that the state government has a revenue problem, not simply a spending problem, and that the governor refuses dealing realistically with that side of the ledger.

Mr. Corbett’s current budget is short despite massive cuts to education and social services. That’s partly because they refused to impose a fair tax on gas drillers who continue to funnel massive profits to their home states and declined to enact tax reform that would close loopholes for huge corporations while more fairly distributing the tax burden…
