Gov. Tom Corbett’s approval rating drops to 41 percent in Quinnipiac poll

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS:  According to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday, 41 percent of respondents approve of how Tom Corbett is handling his job as governor, down from a 47 percent approval rating in December and just equal to the 41 percent who disapprove.

Pollsters said the fall-off may be tied to Corbett’s budget proposal containing cuts in popular state aid lines, including reductions of 20 to 30 percent in aid to public colleges and universities. That “may have hit a nerve with parents fearful that tuition could rise,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of Quinnipiac’s polling institute.

Corbett’s approval rating was also stuck at an all-time low of 39 percent through last year’s budget negotiations, with its messy debates over cuts to public school funding and other programs…  (more)
