GM suspends electric Volt production

FINANCIAL TIMES:  General Motors has suspended production of its electric Chevrolet Volt for five weeks to reduce a backlog of vehicles created by disappointing sales.

About 1,300 workers from the Volt plant in Detroit will be sent home on paid leave while production is halted, from late March to late April.

Volt sales, which had already been falling short of GM’s hopes, dropped sharply in January following negative publicity when US regulators found the cars’ battery packs had caught fire in three test crashes…  (more)
