USA TODAY: “As the thing started to unfold and there was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like the Hitler Youth. Who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing,” Beck said on his program this morning.
The camp, on Utoya Island off Oslo, is sponsored by the liberal social-democratic Labor Party, the senior partner running Norway’s government. The Hitler Youth was a paramilitary organization of Germany’s Nazi Party during World War II.
A former press secretary to Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg called Beck’s comment “a new low” for the former Fox News star, London’s Daily Telegraph reports. “Young political activists have gathered at Utoya for over 60 years to learn about and be part of democracy, the very opposite of what the Hitler Youth was about,” he told the newspaper. “Glenn Beck’s comments are ignorant, incorrect and extremely hurtful.”… (more)
