Four of five Dem guv candidates would sign “single-payer” bill

According to an observer at the Democrat gathering at the Lancaster Host Farm resorts to honor Gov. Ed Rendell, a discussion organized by the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee Women’s Caucus generated assurances for all candidates except for Auditor General Jack Wagner to sign legislation for a “single-payer” program in Pennsylvania.

Making the pledge were Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and state Sen. Anthony Williams.

Meanwhile, Senator Arlen Specter and his primary opponent Congressman Joe Sestak both asserted they would support a “public option” as part of revisions to the nation’s health care program.
