The Pennsylvania Turnpike will double the annual service fee for E-ZPass transponders effective Jan. 1.
The increase from the current $3 to $6 is the first since the turnpike adopted the electronic toll collection system in December 2000, spokesman Carl DeFebo said.
In a letter to E-ZPass customers, the turnpike said the increase “is necessary due to the rising costs of administering” the program, which allows drivers to zip through collection points and have their tolls electronically deducted from a prepaid account…
