Fed directs review of its bank supervision

USA TODAY: The Federal Reserve said Thursday it will conduct a review of how it supervises the largest U.S. banks following reports that the New York Fed is too cozy with the institutions it oversees and suppresses dissenting views…

In September, ProPublica and “This American Life,” a public radio show, released excerpts of taped conversations of Fed bank examiners, made by a former New York Fed employee, suggesting her supervisors were too easy on Goldman Sachs in reviewing a deal.

And The New York Times reported Thursday that a Goldman Sachs banker who previously worked at the New York Fed received confidential documents from a former colleague at the reserve bank. The banker and his supervisor were fired, as was the New York Fed employee suspected of sharing information… (more)
