Eyeing incinerator sale, Dauphin County and potential buyer apply for grant

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS: … The Dauphin County Commissioners voted Wednesday to apply for a state grant for repairs to Harrisburg’s incinerator with the Lancaster County Solid Waste Municipal Authority.

The authority is expected to buy the incinerator, formally called the Harrisburg Resource Recovery Facility. If the incinerator were to win the Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program grant, the county would serve as pass-through agency to the authority. The county would not have to pay for any work that might be done with the grant, said Commissioner George Hartwick III.

The county had to apply for the grant before the sale, because it would not be in a position to do so after the sale, Hartwick said. If it waited, the authority might not have been eligible to receive the grant.
