U.S. Senate candidate Pat Toomey gets our overwhelming recommendation for the Republican nomination.
In meetings and debates thus far, he stands out as a sharp individual who is able to articulate policy positions that are more substantive than the same old party sound bites.
He is not, as some have characterized him, just a conservative clone in the mold of Rick Santorum. While he has clear social conservative views, he told The Patriot-News editorial board in January, for example, “It has never occurred to me to think that pro-choice people couldn’t be good Republicans.”
