Email Scandal Focusing on Phila. District Attorney’s Office

THE LEGAL INTELLIGENCER: …On Dec. 3, the judge overseeing the prosecution of state Rep. Louise Williams Bishop, D-Philadelphia, denied a motion to quash a subpoena to have Fina testify at a hearing. Fina led the investigation into Bishop and several other state representatives who were the subjects of a corruption investigation.

Bishop’s attorney, Charles Peruto Jr., said Fina will be testifying about whether race played a role in the investigation of the legislators, all of whom are black.

But the case was initially in the hands of the state Attorney General’s Office, and Attorney General Kathleen Kane dropped the investigation into the legislators after she took office. Kane has said she dropped the charges over concerns of racism… (more)

EDITOR: Now we gain a glimpse of the back story and come to better understand the vicious attacks on Attorney General Kathleen Kane. The culprits who prejudiced the investigation were accusing Kane of not prosecuting Democrat Philadelphian politicians. To the extend Kane may have been involved in leaking information (a time honored custom that goes on every day, everywhere) it was to let the Philadelphia newspapers know her legitimate reasons.
